In 2024, Georgian identical twins Amy and Ano made global headlines after meeting for the first time as teenagers – and learning they had been separated at birth and illegally adopted. After learning of her own adoption in 2016, journalist Tamuna Museridze set out to find her birth parents – and wound up uncovering an infant trafficking scheme that has impacted tens of thousands of lives. From the 1970s through the early 2000s, an elaborate underground network – including hospital staff and government officials – told parents that their newborns had died in order to sell them into high-paying adoptions. Since her chilling discovery, Tamuna has worked tirelessly to bring this tragedy to light, hold those involved accountable, and reunite families.
